At approximately 1:30 AM on the morning of March 21, 2003 James Robert "Robbie" Nottingham was discovered dead in a pool of blood on the sidewalk outside his on-campus apartment at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City. No evidence of suicide was found. A toxicology test revealed no alcohol or drugs in Robbie's system at the time of his death.
On April 24, 2003 the ETSU Department of Public Safety concluded their investigation determining that he "died as a result of a fall from the porch roof" of building H of the Buccaneer Ridge Apartments at ETSU. The death certificate, however, says that the manner of death "could not be determined." Foul play may have been involved.
